Its a common feature for every Nigerian child to hear stories and myths from their elder ones while growing up, as a young kid. The myths usually range from religious myths to science, nature, relationships and the likes.
The most popular myth peculiar to my own generation was related to sports, though. Almost every kid within my age range heard the story where India team was winning against Nigeria by ninety-nine goals to nil. Our elders completed the fable by narrating how Sam Okwaraji saved the day by scoring a lone goal, which resulted to his death. Well, I believe there's no one that still believe that hilarious tale anymore. We all knew how Okwaraji died. More so, the story is too impossible to believe to any mature minds. It was a wonderful time growing up as a Nigerian child.
Apart from these, there are also myths about dating and relationships that our elders relayed to us. In this article, I highlighted five of them. They're listed as follows:
1. You Can't Propose To A Man, As A Lady:
Yeah, almost every young girl heard this while growing up that it's forbidden for women to woo men. I don't have to talk much, you and I know it's quite untrue. Aunty, if there's any man you really like, you better shoot your shot before someone else takes him away.
2. You'll Get Pregnant If A Man Touch You:
We also heard this fable too. Back then, we were so scared to touch our female friends because we blindly felt for the myths. We all know it's quite a lie, as well.
3. Destined Soul Mate:
We also used to hear that every man and woman has been destined to marry a particular fellow from Heaven. Well, if you still believe that fable, you might, as well, keep waiting and searching for your imaginary marriage companion. Lol!
4. Sleeping With Each Other On First Date:
Another myth we used to hear is that if you slept on a first date, you'll look cheap to your partner. This one applies to the female folks though. Well, either you did on the first date or the hundredth date, a relationship that is meant to collapse will surely do. So, the myth remains untrue, as well.
5. Don't Take Her Serious If She Say Yes Easily:
This one goes to the guys. We used to hear that if a lady give in easily to your advances, that we shouldn't take her serious. It's also quite untrue because it doesn't always come true. More so, a lady saying yes early doesn't mean she isn't serious with her decision.
